The World’s foremost sports competition, the 2012 Summer Olympics will be held in London, England.
The concept of the Olympic Games is based on a Greek tradition from ancient times. They were held in the early 7th century BC, through the 4th century BC, when they were discontinued as a pagan practice. They were not held again until the 19th century.
Today’s modern Olympic Games bring competitors from more than 200 nations, with Summer and Winter Olympic games alternating every two years. The Opening Ceremonies for these games are a combination of interpretations of ancient rituals and modern entertainment, culminating in the Athlete’s Parade and the Lighting of the Olympic Torch. The torch, which will have been lit in Olympia some months ago, will have traveled the globe with volunteer and celebrity torch bearers carrying the torch by hand in a giant relay that will last up until the end of the Opening Ceremonies. The torch will continue to burn through the duration of the games, until finally being extinguished during the Closing Ceremonies.
The Opening Ceremonies will be held in London, on July 27th at 7:30PM GMT. Of course, your Final Count link will only work on your iPhone, iPod, or iPad with Final Count installed:
